Mid-Mail issue 4--What can I do with a Radio???

Almost everyone purchases radios to communicate wirelessly. Voice communications are a very cost efficient investment. But what if you could find more uses for your equipment investment. You could be notified if one of your employees has been knocked down due to an accident or because of a medical emergency. You could be made aware if an individuals microphone is stuck and blocking your system, and which radio is causing this problem. You can be paged on your radio, or page another radio. You can make or receive telephone calls on your radio. You can remotely turn on or off machines with your radio. You can even receive notification of security breaches, machine failures, low or high line pressure, or any PLC function. You can send and receive multiple types of data or bar code information. Your radio system is a broad platform that is not limited to only voice communications.

Lets look at a few of these non-traditional applications:

MAN DOWN

This feature allows for notification to be sent when a radio is tilted to a paralleled angle for a specific period of time.  A message is sent to your base station stating that conditions have been met for a MAN DOWN emergency.

ANI

Automatic Number Identification (ANI) is a code transmitted that Identifies which radio is sending a voice or data message.  This feature is utilized in "MAN DOWN".  ANI can also be used to identify a radio whose microphone may be stuck in transmit, disrupting communications on your system.

PAGING

Turn your radio into a two-way message device.  With simple modifications, your radio can send and receive pages.  It can even be paged from a telephone.  By harnessing the decode function that comes standard in many radio models, you can be alerted to emergency situations that occur.

TELEPHONE

Inbound and outbound telephone service is available with the addition of a telephone interconnect module attached to your base station and interfaced with your present telephone system.

REMOTE MACHINE CONTROL

You have the ability to wirelessly activate an "on-off" switch,  open or close a gate or valve, start a machine, you can even set your alarm system.  These are all simple options available to you via your radio.

CONDITIONAL NOTIFICATION

Any PLC or machine that can produce a contact can sent voice or alpha messages to a properly equipped radio system.  Your security personnel can get a notification when a door has been opened, a drug or file cabinet has been breached, or if motion detectors in secure areas are activated.  Your maintenance department can be notified of machine down conditions, high/low, line or vessel pressure, spills, or  voltage changes.  Saftey issues such as servere weather alerts, fire or other predefined emergency conditions can be sent to all or selected radios.  Your material-handling department can also benefit from conditional notifications.  Imagine automatic messages to forklift operators when stock is getting low at workstations.

DATA TRANSFER

Production data, scrap count, or any information you need to get from point "A" to point "B" can be transmitted accurately and timely via your radio system.

Make a wish list of possible communication solutions and ask your radio consultant to show you your options and find out how much work you can get out of your radio system, and how cost effectively you can add these options.
